Advertising/Events Internship

As the Advertising/Events Intern with Creative Services Department at Texas Motor Speedway, you will have the opportunity to gain experience in the fields of advertising and event management in a business environment.

The internship allows students to network with people within the motorsports industry and local community while working at one of the premier racing facilities in the United States. By the end of this internship, you will have a better understanding of the process and preparation that goes into planning and working at a race facility.

The voluntary internship will last, at minimum, the length of a semester, and all interns will experience multiple events including a major race weekend. The schedule is flexible and allows the student ample time to attend classes. However, the student will be required to attend certain events. While obtaining course credit for this internship by their college is not required, it is preferred.

Qualifications:
• College level student majoring in communications, sport management, advertising, marketing, or related field
• Good organizational and communication skills
• Eager to brainstorm and bring new ideas to all projects
• Attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to remain flexible, handling changing priorities and tight deadlines
• Must be able to work any scheduled event nights and weekends that fall during the internship.

Responsibilities: (Expanded upon during interview)
• Assist with annual media buys which includes purchasing, creative, fulfillment and payment related to radio, print, television, outdoor, online, texting and more
• Assist with maintaining the annual advertising budget
• Help develop promotional campaigns with media partners
• Create and assist with activation of events hosted by the speedway
• Conduct research from other venues, tracks and sports teams
• Assist with day to day office operations and other event related duties

Texas Motor Speedway Media Relations Internship

The internship program at Texas Motor Speedway provides college students the opportunity to gain experience in both public relations and motor sports. The internship allows students gain hand-on experience in the motorsports industry while at the same time allowing them to network with individuals in the industry. By the end of their internship they will have a greater understanding of the process and preparation that goes into a race weekend. The internship lasts the length of the semester and all interns will get to experience one race weekend. The internship is unpaid.

Expectations:
• All interns will conduct themselves in a professional manner. That includes proper dress and proper conduct during race weekend.
• Interns will report to their internship manager. Interns are required to contact their manager to notify if they will be late, absent or need to leave early on any given day.
• All interns will be treated as a regular employee of Texas Motor Speedway. They are to report to work on team each day (as assigned by their manager).

Qualifications:
College Level Student – B.A., B.S. or majoring in mass communications, journalism, communications, marketing, graphic arts, public relations or related field. Good organizational skills; attention to detail and accuracy. Must be able to work any scheduled event weekends that fall during the internship.

Responsibilities:
• Assist in the planning and execution of PR/media events
• Assist with the compilation and updating of daily clip reports
• Assist in the organization of the media center before and after races
• Working with and assisting pit reporters and staff volunteers on race weekends
• Help with production of press releases and other news items
• Assist in updating the Texas Motor Speedway media guide
• Helping to maintain current media contact list

INTERNSHIP QUALIFICATIONS:
College Level Student – B.A., B.S. with the following majors, but not limited to, hospitality management, non-profit, sports or motorsport management, public relations or related field.
Good organizational skills; attention to detail and accuracy, self-starter, good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel,

DUTIES:
• Assist in day-to-day operations. This may involve making phone calls, faxing, organizing, filing, odd jobs, etc.
• Maintain and compile relevant databases and contact lists.
• Assist in designing and implementing sponsorship proposals
• Assist in organizing events by detailing action items
• Assist with volunteer contact and organizing per event
• During events get hands-on experience by helping coordinate behind the scenes
• Help plan and organize volunteer appreciation party.

This is an unpaid internship.

However, as a token of gratitude, all interns who complete the semester internship and work the race events held during the semester internship will receive a $500 stipend.
 

Job Description:
This Internship program with the Events Department at Texas Motor Speedway provides college students the opportunity to gain experience in promotions, event planning and motor sports. The internship allows students to network with people within the motor sports industry and local community while working at one of the premier racing facilities in the United States. By the end of this internship you will have a better understanding of the process and preparation that goes into planning and working a variety of major events.
The internship will last one semester and all interns will have the opportunity to experience multiple events including a major race weekend. While this internship is unpaid, some of the work done during events and done while working as a part of our promotions team will be paid at an hourly rate. The schedule is flexible to allow you ample time to attend classes; however, there will be mandatory events required of the intern to attend.

Qualifications:
College Level Student- B.A., B.S. or majoring in communications, sport management, Kinesiology, marketing, or related field. Good organizational and communication skills, attention to detail and accuracy. Must be able to work any scheduled event nights and weekends that fall during the internship.

This internship will provide valuable experience working in all areas of video production with the Creative Services/Events Department at Texas Motor Speedway. The internship allows students to network with people within the motorsports industry and local community while working at one of the premier racing facilities in the United States. By the end of this internship, you will have a better understanding of the process and preparation that goes into video production at a race facility.

The unpaid internship will last the length of a semester, and all interns will experience multiple events including a major race weekend. The schedule is flexible and allows the student ample time to attend classes. However, the student will be required to attend certain events. While obtaining course credit for this internship by their college is not required, it is preferred.

College Level Student- B.A., B.S. or majoring in communications, journalism, sport management, or related field. Good organizational and communication skills. Attention to detail and accuracy. Must be able to work any scheduled event nights and weekends that fall during the internship.

Candidate should have some background and familiarity with video production as well as experience with Final Cut Pro or similar non-linear editing software required.

• Assist with producing video content for website and video boards, as well as other outlets.
• Includes writing scripts, shooting and editing video.
• Cataloguing video pieces and archiving
• Assist in the planning and executing of promotions/events
• Research outlets for creative and other video related fields
• Assist with day to day office operations
• Other duties as assigned
