Kentucky Speedway is seeking a highly-motivated and dedicated intern to join our Graphic Design department for the summer.  The primary responsibility of this position will focus on gaining hands on experience in the motorsports industry through various design projects.  This is an opportunity to work with a highly skilled group of people on a variety of challenging initiatives.  At Kentucky Speedway you’ll find our culture to be exciting and very fast-paced. 

Areas of Focus include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist in creating promotional flyers, banners, email blast and materials for various events.

  • Assist in day-to-day renderings, mock-ups, and editing of existing pieces.

  • Assist in the design of various advertising campaigns, through print, radio and television.

  • Assist in sign shop including printing and installation.

  • Perform additional duties and objectives as assigned.

    Requirements: 

  • Open to college juniors, seniors, and graduate students seeking an internship

  • Graphic design or related major required

  • Intern should provide their own laptop with programs

  • Must be proficient in Adobe Suite- Photoshop CS6 or higher, Adobe Illustrator CS6 or higher, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe InDesign CS6 or higher, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Recommended Skill – Adobe Dreamweaver

Internship: Communications/Community Relations

Kentucky Speedway is seeking a highly-motivated and dedicated intern to join our communications department for the summer.  The primary responsibility of this position will focus on gaining hands on experience in the motorsports industry through various communications projects.  This is an opportunity to work with a highly skilled group of people on a variety of challenging initiatives. Job Responsibilities:
• Assist in the planning, preparation, and execution of press conferences and media events
• Assist in the organization of the media center and press box before and after events
• Assist with the development, editing, and proofing of press releases, media guides, souvenir programs, brochures, and PA announcements
• Assist with special projects and promotions developed by the department including video packages for various platforms
• Helping to maintain current media contact list

• Other duties as assigned

Skills and Attributes:
• Video shooting and editing experience is strongly recommended.  Editing, preferably in Avid or Pinnacle
• Ability to contribute creative ideas and concepts
• Strong writing skills are essential
• Ability to make quick decisions in a fast-paced live environment while keeping a positive   attitude
• Ability to remain extremely flexible in an ever changing environment

Experience and Education:

Description

As an Intern at Kentucky Speedway in Corporate Services and Marketing, you will have the opportunity to gain experience in the fields of Corporate Sales, Client Services, and Marketing.   This may include sponsorship development, client contract fulfillment, event staff coordination, on-site marketing, event set-up and dismantle, and more. This internship will teach the importance of organization, coordination, contract fulfillment, and communication.   You will also learn the importance of negotiation and understanding client needs as well as the needs of Kentucky Speedway.  You should be prepared to work in a fast-paced team environment, and will finish the internship having gained experience in various aspects of corporate sales, client services, and marketing.

The internship allows students to network within the motorsports industry and local community while working at one of the premier racing facilities in the United States. By the end of this internship, you will have a better understanding of the process and preparation that goes into planning and working at a race facility.

Interns may work up to 40 hours per week and must be available to work extended hours during the race weekend.  This is a paid, hourly position at $8.00 per hour.

Requirements/Duties

•    Assist with integrating new clients.

  • Assist with monitoring, tracking and fulfilling contracted assets

  • Assist with onsite coordination of all hospitality areas including Suites

  • Keep client history files orderly and up to date

  • Manage event mailings to Clients including tickets, credentials and correspondence

  • Partner with Client Services team to manage/resolve issues during event

  • Assist Account Executives in future client research

  • Assist Marketing with special projects and on-site event marketing

Intern Events Summer 2017 - Kentucky Speedway (Sparta, KY)

Events Intern – Kentucky Speedway

As an Intern at Kentucky Speedway in the Events Department, you will have the opportunity to gain experience in the field of event management and production.  This internship will teach the importance of strategic planning, organization, coordination, and communication skills within many areas. The events department at Kentucky Speedway oversees a variety of areas including, but not limited to: credentials, camping, gate operations, and event staff training.

This internship will prepare you with a better understanding of the process and preparation that goes into planning and working at a race facility.

Interns may work 40 hours per week and must be available to work weekends during the races.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create credential boards and notebooks for gate entrances.
  • Assist with credential mail out.

  • Create reference books for each campground and information booths.

  • Put together camping welcome packages and information booth materials.

  • Assist with overall setup:  campgrounds, signage, fencing, tents, tables, etc,  

  • Coordinate staff meals during events.  

  • Assist with check-in at training sessions

  • Update and maintain email lists for online training.

  • Organize event supplies and equipment. 

  • Update training materials

Miscellaneous

  • Assist with Speedway Children’s Charity  fundraisers

  • Interns must be able to lift a minimum of 30 pounds.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Role and Responsibilities
Sales:

• Promote & Sell season, group & individual ticket packages.
• Generate ticket sales revenues through heavy phone sales
• Make a minimum of 50 outreach calls per day from provided lead lists & prospecting.
• Stay updated on other SMI ticketing sales and marketing promotions.
• Meet or exceed weekly & monthly sales goals.
• Upgrade & up sell customers into different categories & ticket packages.
• Create new sales leads & prospect for new business via phone cold calling, email, & targeted direct mail.
• Provide & maintain the highest level of customer service to clients & guests.
• Able to work various shows & events that promote Kentucky Speedway in a positive manner.
• Perform other duties & responsibilities as assigned by managers.

Qualifications:

• College level student majoring in communications, sport management, advertising, marketing, or related fields would be a plus.
• Desire to start & build a career in sports sales.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
• Previous experience in phone sales, outside sales, customer service or retail sales is beneficial.
• Excellent communication skills, strong enthusiasm, a professional demeanor & the ability to engage professionally with clients are required.
• Ticket printing, organization and fundamentals of all Ticket Mailings.
• Ability to work well with others in a team setting.

Schedule / Compensation:
Interns may work 40 hours per week and must be available to work staggered schedule times.  Weekends will be a requirement during the races.
This position is an hourly position paid at $8.00.
