Event Operations Crew Member - Charlotte Motor Speedway Operations (Concord, NC)

Event Operations Crew Member

SUMMARY: Under limited supervision, performs a variety of duties in the Event Operations Department of Charlotte Motor Speedway Operations; and performs related duties as assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reports to the Event Operations Lead Person to ensure that all events are serviced by pre/post  cleaning, event setup and teardown, and facility maintenance projects  

  • Responsible for pre/post event trash pickup duties and hauling waste

  • Involved in event setup equipment including barricades, parking cones, bleachers, and fencing

  • Performs pressure washing duties around property including grandstands, concourses, sidewalks buildings, and other facility areas

  • Completes work order assignments in a timely manner

  • Work events and perform various duties as needed to make event successful

  • Performs preventative maintenance on all department equipment to ensure efficiency

  • Assembles and moves furniture along with other equipment around property

  • Assist with the setup and teardown of Speedway Christmas

  • Assists other departments when needed

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of event operations for a large scale multi-function event complex

  • Knowledge of a variety of operations equipment including pressure washers, forklifts, tractors, etc.

  • Skills in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work involves moderate to heavy work in all types of weather. There is frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, lift heavy objects up to 50 pounds and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday. This position is 40 hours a week plus overtime during our event seasons. It is required that the position is available to work all three shifts during event weekends.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or GED and one (1) year event operations experience in a large event facility, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. A valid driver’s license is required and a clear driving record is required.

Event Operations Intern (Spring 2016: January - End of May) - Charlotte Motor Speedway (Concord, NC)

The Operations Department is seeking candidates who are self-starting and able to multitask in a fast paced changing environment. Candidates who are looking to gain a working knowledge of the event operational aspects of a multi-function racing complex which will include NASCAR racing, Car Shows, Track Rentals, and daily maintenance of our facilities.

Interns duties to include:

  • Provide daily assistance to the Event Operations Department including assisting the Event Operations Manager plan and prepare for each event
  • Assist Event Operation team members with checklists and maintaining/monitoring  work logs
  • Operate equipment to assist in the setup and teardown of events including rustlers, golf carts, and forklifts
  • Research the needs for upcoming projects in the operations department. 
  • Daily tracking activities will include facility maintenance, equipment inventory, fuel usage, work orders, and time sheets.
  • Assist in the coordination of fan logistics including the fan assistance golf cart program, trams, and shuttle buses
  • During events—Assist team members with on call duties and assist fans when needed
  • Maintain records and staffing plans for department efficiency and productivity

Qualifications:

  •  Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Motorsports, Event, Operations, or Business Management from an accredited college or university
  •  Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and proven ability to meet deadlines

Position Summary:

Mobile Marketing Intern (Spring 2016: January - End of May) - Charlotte Motor Speedway (Concord, NC)

 The Mobile Marketing intern will work closely with our Marketing and Communications departments to make appearances with our Fan Van to promote Charlotte Motor Speedway, zMAX Dragway and The Dirt Track,  within the surrounding communities. The Fan Van is a grassroots marketing vehicle that travels to various events, such as grand openings, sponsor events, birthday parties, tailgating events, fundraisers, community events, and more. The Fan Van is equipped with video gaming systems, corn hole, activities, music, and promotional items. This intern will be required to take initiative and brainstorm creative places and events for the Fan Van to attend. Great customer service skills, a creative mindset, and a team player attitude are a must! As the Fan Van intern, you will receive the chance to gain experience in many departments of Charlotte Motor Speedway.

A minimum of 20 hours per week (credit eligible) are required. This is an unpaid internship, but a stipend will be paid at the end of the completion of a successful internship.

Job Responsibilities:
• Coordinate all appearances for the Fan Van. This includes corresponding with customers who want to book the Fan Van for birthday parties, tailgating events, fundraisers, community events, grand openings, and more.

Racing Operations Intern (Spring 2016: January - End of May) - Charlotte Motor Speedway (Concord, NC)

The Racing Operations Department is seeking candidates who are self-starting and able to multitask in a fast paced environment. Interns in this department need exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities: 

  • Assist Director of Racing Operations in all aspects of on-track and competition racing operations.
    Including but not limited to:o Day-to-day staff management
    o Direct competition and related logistics
    o Hiring/recruiting
    o Jet Dryer logistics, staffing, and operations
    o Oversee fence and wall repair or maintenance
    o Oversee track repair
    o Public Safety coordination with state and local authorities
    o Training for officials and on-track crews
    o Oversee the Track Services department
  • Assist with management of all schedules for CMS events
  • Help coordinate with NASCAR and other racing series for scheduling, logistics, race operations, and event management
  • Assist with all Action Sports related entities
  • Assist the CMS Events Department with events at CMS 1.5 mile track, the dirt track, and the zMAX Dragway.
  • Assist with Summer Shootout and all US Legends operations with CMS
  • Assist with all on-track racing activities
  • Help facilitate safety and ground logistics with stunts for pre-race shows or press conferences
  • Work directly with facility operations to ensure work orders from events and GS&L are prioritized and managed accordingly

CMS is one of the busiest facilities in the country and this internship will help with track rental customers. This is a hands on, fast paced internship. A lot of experience will be gained in event preparation and planning.

Intern must be able to work a minimum of 20 hours per week plus all events held during the semester.
Word and Excel Spreadsheet experience required.

Security Intern (Spring 2016: January - End of May) - Charlotte Motor Speedway (Concord, NC)

Interns working in the Security Department will be responsible for assisting the officer on duty with attending to the first floor lobby office during normal business hours by answering guest's questions, answering the phone, and operating the camera system for potential issue.

Daily activities include- locking and unlocking doors, gates, and offices; the signing in and out of keys; monitoring deliveries in and out of the building through the loading docks; and helping to make the public feel welcome and wanted. The Security intern will also help out other departments as needed, such as our Guest Services and Logistics team. Making our guests' visit to CMS as enjoyable as possible is one of our top priorities.

•Candidates will perform administrative work and partner with our security teams during events.
•Responsible for gate control to ensure people with the proper credentials have access to restricted areas
•Assist in day-to-day operations. This may involve making phone calls, computer work, and guest services

Position Summary:

The Short Track Manager is responsible for the management, coordination and execution of the events and duties listed below. 

Job Responsibilities:

·       Oversee all Short Track Events at Charlotte Motor Speedway, The Dirt Track @ Charlotte and zMAX Dragway on day-to-day and year-long initiatives

·       Manage, coordinate, hire and train all event time Officials to work various Charlotte Motor Speedway Events

·       Maintain expenses within assigned budgets on Event and Yearly basis

·       Communicate and organize with necessary Sanction Bodies and/or Event Organizers to produce sound and successful events

·       Develop new and creative Events for Charlotte Motor Speedway

·       Manage concert(s) at Charlotte Motor Speedway Events: Artist fulfillment, layouts, stage coordination, scheduling, etc.

·       Manage and oversee various aspects of Charlotte Motor Speedway Car Show Events

·       Coordinate and assist in Major Event aspects; production, logistics/set-up, activation

·       Creates and manages operational checklists on assigned events

·       Other duties as assigned

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

·       Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

·       Comfortable working in a leadership role

·       Maturity in interpersonal communication skills (verbal, non-verbal and written)

·       Able to work in a fast-paced environment and making sound decisions in critical times

·       Capable of working in a team oriented work place

·       Experience and knowledge in “calling” and working within race events is a plus
