Charlotte Motor Speedway is seeking individuals for our upcoming race weekends. We are looking for enthusiastic, hard-working and outgoing individuals.

Requirements:
* Must have a strong customer service background.
* Must be available for ALL Charlotte Motor Speedway major events including events on nights, weekends, and holidays. Major event days are October 6-8, 2016. Other events may be available to work in addition to these.
* Must be a team player, have a positive attitude, use good judgment, and present a professional image.
* Must have the ability to stand for an extended period of time and work outside in various weather conditions.
* Must pass a background check.

Charlotte Motor Speedway, is seeking a highly-motivated and dedicated intern to join our Camping Department. The primary responsibility of this position is to gain hands-on experience in the field of marketing & operations through various event projects.


Job Responsibilities:
• Assist in the planning, preparation, and execution of camping activities & events.
• Assist in the daily organization of camping office.
• Assist in communicating important notices and information to customers and employees.

This department involves working with clients and sponsors on a national, regional and local level. The Corporate Sales Department focuses on fully developing integrated marketing partnerships between the client and the speedway. This department seeks outgoing, creative, highly motivated, can-do individuals with good communication skills. The Corporate Sales Department looks for 2-3 interns each semester.

Specific Intern Duties: Assisting Sales Executives with sales proposals for existing and potential clients, research of companies and other possible sales opportunities, activating one of our many events which include, NASCAR, NHRA, World of Outlaws, Monster Trucks, and 2 yearly Car Shows. Daily office duties such as answering phone calls, filing, data management would also be a part of the position.

Event Operations Intern (Spring 2017: January-June) - Charlotte Motor Speedway (Concord, NC)

The Operations Department is seeking candidates who are self-starting and able to multitask in a fast paced changing environment. Candidates who are looking to gain a working knowledge of the event operational aspects of a multi-function racing complex which will include NASCAR racing, Car Shows, Track Rentals, and daily maintenance of our facilities.

Interns duties to include:

  • Provide daily assistance to the Event Operations Department including assisting the Event Operations Manager plan and prepare for each event
  • Assist Event Operation team members with checklists and maintaining/monitoring  work logs
  • Operate equipment to assist in the setup and teardown of events including rustlers, golf carts, and forklifts
  • Research the needs for upcoming projects in the operations department. 
  • Daily tracking activities will include facility maintenance, equipment inventory, fuel usage, work orders, and time sheets.
  • Assist in the coordination of fan logistics including the fan assistance golf cart program, trams, and shuttle buses
  • During events—Assist team members with on call duties and assist fans when needed
  • Maintain records and staffing plans for department efficiency and productivity
  • Other duties assigned

Qualifications:

  •  Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Motorsports, Event, Operations, or Business Management from an accredited college or university
  •  Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and proven ability to meet deadlines
  •  Must be able to work during the week and on the weekends when events are in the facility. Extended work hours are also required during events
  • Must have a positive and optimistic attitude
  •  Willing to work outside and out of an office for the majority of the internship
  •  Willing to work in a team setting and learn from current staff

As part of this internship you will learn how cost is associated with these activities affect the overall operating budgets for an event.

Applicants are required to have strong computer knowledge of Excel, Microsoft Word, as data entry will be a part of the daily activities.  Good communication skills required by phone and email to communicate incoming requests to our operational team.

The Events Department offers interns practical experience in the production, promotion and execution of national, regional and grassroots events.

We are seeking quick-learning and self-starting candidates who desire to gain an extensive working knowledge of NASCAR, short-track, drag racing, and special events. In addition to assisting in administrative and office duties, candidates will be required to assist with registration and sign in of competitors, lifting and moving of event supplies and equipment, ticket sales and various other race day duties. Additional non-event duties may include assisting other departments with promotional appearances, covering telephones, data entry, and staffing guest services/hospitality positions for events. 

Ideal candidates must be a team player, customer-friendly, organized, outgoing, professional and able to deal effectively with frequent interruptions in a demanding environment. Due to the dynamic nature of the business, multi-tasking skills and the ability to think on the fly are a must. Excellent computer and customer relation skills are a must. Knowledge of the short-track and drag racing industry is a plus.

Groundskeeper Intern

Charlotte Motor Speedway, zMax Dragway, and The Dirt Track at Charlotte is seeking to fill the position of a Groundskeeper Intern. The Groundskeeper Intern is responsible for assisting in repairing and maintaining all grounds, turf, and its surrounding components as a first-class event facility by performing daily turf, dirt, parking lot maintenance, and water management; event preparation as well as short and long-term maintenance planning. This position works under management in maintaining a race surface turf that meets the guidelines and complies with and/or exceeds the high quality and safety standards.

Primary Duties:

  • Contribute to the care and maintenance of the turf, ornamental plants, shrubs, trees and wetlands on the facility grounds.
  • Assist the staff on the planting of new vegetation, the replacement, spraying, pruning and trimming of trees and shrubs, the preparation of soil plant beds for aesthetically pleasing arrangements, and tending to high stress areas.
  • Provides detailed annual plan for the various property levels and the designated landscaping areas. Includes rotational design to provide facility with fresh, eye-catching, interesting, and pleasant atmosphere.
  • Collaborate with Management to oversee the aggressive water usage tracking plan and irrigation systems. Provide monthly reporting on retaining ponds, wells, and other water source usage.
  • Participates in technical, operational, and safety training with employees to ensure that staff is working within OSHA, state, and federal guidelines for safe working conditions.
  • Partake in proper and safe operation and maintenance of mechanical and power equipment.
  • Engage in the application and recording of chemical applications (fertilizers and pesticides) on the speedways grounds in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Schedules maintenance practices around track rentals and events to maximize efficiency and minimize disruption to guests.
  • Works with staff to coordinates snow removal and winter maintenance activities when necessary.

 

 

Knowledge & Skills Required:

  • Knowledge of maintenance of sports fields and large facility grounds keeping.
  • Knowledge of use and operating standards of equipment and tools used in landscape construction and maintenance work.  
  • Knowledge of safe use, mixing, and application of chemicals and commercial products.
  • Knowledge of scheduling around the event business.
  • Ability to anticipate personnel, equipment, and material requirements related to facility grounds maintenance and repair assignments.

As the Fan Van intern, you will receive the chance to gain experience in many departments of Charlotte Motor Speedway.

A minimum of 20 hours per week (credit eligible) are required. This is an unpaid internship, but a stipend will be paid at the end of the completion of a successful internship.

  • Assist Director of Racing Operations in all aspects of on-track and competition racing operations.
    Including but not limited to:o Day-to-day staff management

Security Intern (Spring 2017: January-June) - Charlotte Motor Speedway (Concord, NC)

Interns working in the Security Department will be responsible for assisting the officer on duty with attending to the first floor lobby office during normal business hours by answering guest's questions, answering the phone, and operating the camera system for potential issue.

Daily activities include- locking and unlocking doors, gates, and offices; the signing in and out of keys; monitoring deliveries in and out of the building through the loading docks; and greeting and assisting guest. The Security intern will also help out other departments as needed, such as our Guest Services and Logistics team. Making our guests' visit to CMS as enjoyable as possible, is one of our top priorities.

•Candidates will perform administrative work and partner with our security teams during events.
•Responsible for gate control to ensure people with the proper credentials have access to restricted areas
•Assist in day-to-day operations. This may involve making phone calls, computer work, and guest services

Intern must be able to work a minimum of 16 hours per week plus all events held during the semester.

Social Media Intern (Spring 2017: January-June) - Charlotte Motor Speedway (Concord, NC)

The Social Media Intern will help to implement the company’s Social Media Marketing. This will include content strategy, developing brand awareness, and generating inbound traffic. The Social Media Intern must be a highly motivated individual with a passion for involvement in media.  The internship is unpaid and requires a minimum of 25 hours per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with researching, writing, editing, and proofreading of electronic marketing and corporate communications materials for both internal and external audiences.

Speedway Motorsports, Inc. (SMI) is a leading marketer and promoter of motorsports entertainment in the United States. SMI, through its subsidiaries, owns and operates eight premier speedway facilities in significant markets across the country.

SMI is seeking potential interns with ambition and a strong desire to excel in the areas of public relations, corporate marketing and motorsports/large event management. College and graduate students with various backgrounds and degrees have had success in our program and continued a path to rewarding careers. The position will offer great networking possibilities for serious, career-minded students.

Specific Intern Duties include but are not limited to: Assist in devising marketing campaigns and proposals for existing clients and new prospects within the motorsports industry; assist in marketing presentations, research on events and other sports marketing opportunities and best practices; client service & partner interaction; special event planning & execution and other routine office duties. The ability to work with multiple divisions and departments of SMI which focus on all aspects of the motorsports industry is necessary.

As with all positions in sports, live events are spontaneous; must be able to work with a team in a fast-paced, event oriented environment and have fun!

Qualifications: Qualified candidates must be available to work a minimum of 25 hours per week in addition to all major events held during the semester. Hours during event time can require early morning arrival and late departures; including weekends. Candidates must be willing to relocate to the Charlotte, NC area; SMI is headquartered at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Majors which would best fit the internship include: Marketing, Public Relations, Economics, Sports Management/Marketing, Hospitality & Entertainment Management and Motorsports specific degrees; additionally, we are open to other majors that may be interested in the event business.

The Speedway Club is in search of an intern who can assist with the day-to-day operations of the department as well as event planning and hospitality. The Speedway Club is a private membership club that offers membership opportunities to individuals and corporations. Tram/Shuttle Bus Driver - Charlotte Motor Speedway (Concord, NC)

Position Summary: The Guest Services and Logistics Tram/Shuttle Bus driver will assist the Senior Manager; Guest Services in transporting guests while providing excellent customer service. The Tram/Shuttle Bus Driver position includes work at events at Charlotte Motor Speedway, The Dirt Track at Charlotte, and The zMAX Dragway assisting in conducting the overall operation of the transportation department. Essential Functions: Job Responsibilities: • SAFELY transport guests to each CMS venue • Greet all guests with a smile and engage them accordingly • Inquire as to where they need to go • Possess knowledge of facilities and overall property layout • Answer questions about various CMS tram routes and event day happening • Inspect overall safety, appearance, and cleanliness of all vehicles and report any issues to your event supervisor • Handle special requests as assigned by your supervisor • Trams/Shuttle buses are only used during specified events during the race season, and will be assigned shifts based on needs by the Guest Services Department. Qualifications: • 21 years of age or older • Drivers with valid Class A, B, or C CDL with passenger endorsement preferred • Clean driving record. Drivers must pass a motor vehicle report before being considered • Friendly and personable. Excellent customer service skills required! • A team player who works well with others • This position requires extended hours (more than 12 hours) in ALL outdoor weather conditions

We are currently seeking new groups to participate as Tram/Shuttle Bus drivers for the upcoming events at Charlotte Motor Speedway.  Drivers with a CDL license a plus but, not mandatory.

This is a great way to maximize profits and be a part of the action. CMS will provide your group a fun, fast-paced, and exciting environment to reach your fund raising goals!

Job Responsibilities:
• SAFELY transport guests to each CMS venue.
• Greet all guests with a smile and engage them accordingly.
• Drive tram/shuttle bus routes as assigned by Transportation Coordinator.
• Possess knowledge of facilities and overall property layout.
• Answer questions about various CMS tram routes and event day happening.

What does my group need to get started?
Fantastic, committed, hard working volunteers who are at least 21 years of age.  Certification that the organization is a non- profit, tax exempt organization as defined in Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code. Lastly, a designated group leader, in charge of the assigned location from open to close.

What positions will my group be able to volunteer for? How much can my group earn?
Your group has an opportunity to volunteer as Tram Drivers and Bus Drivers. Pay is determined by the number of groups that your group is able to provide.

Do you provide training?
YES! All members of the group must complete an online training class as well as a on-site training class at Charlotte Motor Speedway. If group members do not complete the training, they are unable to work.
