Facility Operations/Event Staff: Maintenance
Event Operations Crew Member - Charlotte Motor Speedway Operations Department (Concord, NC)

Event Operations Crew Member

SUMMARY: Under limited supervision, performs a variety of duties in the Event Operations Department of Charlotte Motor Speedway Operations; and performs related duties as assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

o   Reports to the Event Operations Lead Person to ensure that all events are serviced by pre/post  cleaning, event setup and teardown, and facility maintenance projects  

o   Responsible for pre/post event trash pickup duties and hauling waste

o   Involved in event setup equipment including barricades, parking cones, bleachers, and fencing

o   Performs pressure washing duties around property including grandstands, concourses, sidewalks buildings, and other facility areas

o   Completes work order assignments in a timely manner

o   Work events and perform various duties as needed to make event successful

o   Performs preventative maintenance on all department equipment to ensure efficiency

o   Assembles and moves furniture along with other equipment around property

o   Assist with the setup and teardown of Speedway Christmas

o   Assists other departments when needed

o   Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

o   Knowledge of event operations for a large scale multi-function event complex

o   Knowledge of a variety of operations equipment including pressure washers, forklifts, tractors, etc.

o   Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.

o   Skills in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.

o   Skill in using hand and power tools.

o   Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with CMS staff and the customers.

o   Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work involves moderate to heavy work in all types of weather. There is frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, lift heavy objects up to 50 pounds and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday. This position is 40 hours a week plus overtime during our event seasons. It is required that the position is available to work all three shifts during event weekends.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or GED and one (1) year event operations experience in a large event facility, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. A valid driver’s license is required and a clear driving record is required.

Groundskeeper Intern

Charlotte Motor Speedway, zMax Dragway, and The Dirt Track at Charlotte is seeking to fill the position of a Groundskeeper Intern. The Groundskeeper Intern is responsible for assisting in repairing and maintaining all grounds, turf, and its surrounding components as a first-class event facility by performing daily turf, dirt, parking lot maintenance, and water management; event preparation as well as short and long-term maintenance planning. This position works under management in maintaining a race surface turf that meets the guidelines and complies with and/or exceeds the high quality and safety standards.

Primary Duties:

  • Contribute to the care and maintenance of the turf, ornamental plants, shrubs, trees and wetlands on the facility grounds.
  • Assist the staff on the planting of new vegetation, the replacement, spraying, pruning and trimming of trees and shrubs, the preparation of soil plant beds for aesthetically pleasing arrangements, and tending to high stress areas.
  • Provides detailed annual plan for the various property levels and the designated landscaping areas. Includes rotational design to provide facility with fresh, eye-catching, interesting, and pleasant atmosphere.
  • Collaborate with Management to oversee the aggressive water usage tracking plan and irrigation systems. Provide monthly reporting on retaining ponds, wells, and other water source usage.
  • Participates in technical, operational, and safety training with employees to ensure that staff is working within OSHA, state, and federal guidelines for safe working conditions.
  • Partake in proper and safe operation and maintenance of mechanical and power equipment.
  • Engage in the application and recording of chemical applications (fertilizers and pesticides) on the speedways grounds in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Schedules maintenance practices around track rentals and events to maximize efficiency and minimize disruption to guests.
  • Works with staff to coordinates snow removal and winter maintenance activities when necessary.

 

 

Knowledge & Skills Required:

  • Knowledge of maintenance of sports fields and large facility grounds keeping.
  • Knowledge of use and operating standards of equipment and tools used in landscape construction and maintenance work.  
  • Knowledge of safe use, mixing, and application of chemicals and commercial products.
  • Knowledge of scheduling around the event business.
  • Ability to anticipate personnel, equipment, and material requirements related to facility grounds maintenance and repair assignments.
  • Knowledge of laying out irrigation patterns, drainage pattern and landscape construction.

·        Intern must be able to work a minimum of 35 hours per week plus all events held during the semester.

  • Internship will meet all requirements for college credit with proper paperwork and professor approval

  • Must be at least 21 years old with clean driving record
  • Advanced computer skills required for financial reporting and control of operations.

Facility Operations/Event Staff: Truck Driver
Mechanic Driver - SMI Properties/Assets Division (Charlotte, NC)

SMI Properties is seeking a full time Mechanic Driver to work as a member of our Assets team. We are looking for a creative and dynamic set of people. Our MD's are all year employees working approximately 125 days out of town, 20% driving and 80% in house duties.

Responsibilities include golf cart work including maintenance and repair, paperwork, and asset DOT driving. Ability to work extended days including evening and weekend hours is a must. This work will include working outside in all types of weather. Minimum Requirements: Mechanic aptitude and/or experience a plus. Experience and knowledge of golf carts preferred, but not required. Basic computer skills required. Valid and clean Class A CDL Driver’s license with a 100,000 mile minimum tractor trailer, ORT, and/or in town experience; skillset can offset required mileage minimum in some cases. Golf Cart or Auto Body repair and painting, welding and fabrication experience a plus. Ability to work independently with strong interactive communication skills preferred. Must be able to pass an extensive background screening.
