KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS: ? Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications or related field required. Masters level degree preferred but not required. ? Must have experience in a public relations, communications or an editorial position with event management experience ? Knowledgeable on social media practices and comfort with applications ? Experience with analytics and measurement of programs ? Supervisor experience desired, ability to build and maintain relationships while working cross functionally and managing up, down and sideways. ? Must have the ability to speak well publicly ? Proficient in Microsoft Office programs. familiarity with creating and editing website content and newsletter design/layout preferred ? Ability to work within tight time frames and simultaneously manage several projects. ? Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills ? Must be organized and extremely detail-oriented ? Existing media and motorsports industry contacts preferred ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES NON-EVENT TIME: ? Develop and implement strategic communications tactics in publicizing and promoting the BMS/D brand o Create earned media events o Assist with promotions/programs including but not limited to driver appearances, corporate/season ticket holders and fan events, etc. ? Develop strategic earned media calendar and assist in planning and execution of events ? Be pro-active in developing new events or improve current ones to attract media attention and promote awareness of BMS/D events that will help sell tickets ? Collaborate with corporate sales and consumer group on promotions/events and develop strategies to best communicate information o Determine audience (for example: media, ticket holders, guests, etc.) and develop best means of communication ? Create and write press releases pertaining to events held at Bristol Motor Speedway (BMS) and Bristol Dragway (BD). o Examples: Support of Speedway Children’s Charities, special events during NASCAR race weekends at Bristol Motor Speedway; Bristol Dragway season launch, Street Fights and other one-off events ? Write material for Bristol magazine, as well as souvenir programs. o Dragway-related material, previews, etc.; compile and put together “places-to-go, things-to-do pieces; any other material as requested from Brand Management and assigned by supervisor ? Manage internship program ? Help secure drivers for media events/race weekend appearances. o Work with Senior Director of the Department to split duties on securing driver appearance/earned media events ? Schedule and coordinate press conferences as assigned ? Collaborate with local/national media to gain coverage for events at BMS/BD. o Establish relationships with local and national media to facilitate this step. Will require some travel. ? Help secure NASCAR and NHRA competitors to participate in SCC events ? Help secure NHRA competitors for appearances in hospitality/Fan Fest events during Thunder Valley Nationals with the goal being to assume control of this program over time. ? Aid in working with NHRA on pre-event logistics. ? Contribute content to BMS web site, upload releases and content ? Contribute content to BMS Facebook and Twitter accounts o Be proficient in posting on Facebook, Twitter etc., with a strong understanding of company message, policy, etc. ? Develop ways to communicate effectively through social media channels o Utilize creative new uses of these mediums o Collaborate with Consumer Group in this process as well ? File and distribute media credentials for NASCAR race weekends. ? Work with Events Department and graphics to make revisions to parking passes, camping passes, etc., designs and numbers in a manner timely with events ? Develop and enhance existing content for guest guides and souvenir programs ? In time, handle and assign/issue all media credentials requests for NASCAR races. o Gather requests; determine necessary access (examples: media center, press box, roof, media center first floor, etc.); fill requests and set up system for distribution for race weekend; mail remaining passes with a system to confirm receipt (tracking) ? Serve as an ambassador for BMS/BD at various public speaking engagements throughout the community. ? Secure speaking opportunities and panel discussion involvement for senior executives ? Develop stories to provide to the media regarding secondary events held at BMS/BD. o Use critical moments in BMS/D history, anniversaries, Hall of Fame connections, etc., to use BMS as an angle ? Assist communications team with media during emergency situations. ? Performs additional duties as assigned by management. EVENT TIME: Participation in areas not necessarily position-related during event time include but are not limited to: ? Ensure media facilities are prepped, stocked and properly functioning for NASCAR/NHRA events, as well as secondary events. o Office supplies, copier needs, step-and-repeat backdrop changes, work with Operations Department on a schedule for having facilities (media center, press box, etc.) cleaned. ? Run media center for both NASCAR/NHRA events, which includes delegating duties to weekend staff. o Assist media and public relations representatives with fulfilling requests, answers, copies made, prepare backdrops, sound and lighting for press conferences ? Assist media members with questions or issues that may arise throughout NASCAR and NHRA events. ? Ensure media center is ready for NASCAR and NHRA press conferences and driver interviews. o Backdrops, sound, lighting, mult-boxes (dragway) ? Ensure driver schedules and introductions at appearances run smoothly during NASCAR/NHRA events. ? Write previews for nightly distribution during NASCAR/NHRA events. ? Recommend and assist media with public interest stories. ? Assist with celebrity appearances during NASCAR/NHRA events. o Any interviews requested of visiting coaches, recording artists, etc. ? Assist with all NASCAR/NHRA credentials issues at event time. ? Ability to adapt to long hours and weekend work ? Assist with national media requests: Sirius/XM, Fox, etc., beyond “business” hours o Staying with members of the media doing after hours broadcasts and reports ? Work with photographers and specific assignments, times, locations, etc. ? Performs additional duties as assigned by management.
