During this internship, the Corporate Sales Intern will gain valuable experience and knowledge of corporate sales, live events and the motorsports industry while supporting the Corporate Sales team with all efforts on multiple platforms. Activities will include partner activation and market research. The intern must be readily available to work long hours and possible weekends.


·         Assist the sales department, including Client Services, with sales proposals for existing and potential clients.

·         Researching sales opportunities.

·         Assist with asset management and tracking

·         Assist with sending out tickets, suite passes and other event information to track partners.

·         Assist with activating on several of our marquee events, including NASCAR and Summit Racing          Equipment Atlanta Motorama.

·         Other duties as assigned by the Corporate Sales staff.

·         The duration of this position will include the NASCAR Weekend, March 3-5, 2017 and the Summit          Racing Equipment Motorama, April 22-23, 2017

·         This is an unpaid internship for college credit only.


·         Must be able to work a minimum of 25 hours per week PLUS all events held during their term.

·         Must be a rising college junior or senior

·         Works well in a team environment.

·         An understanding of Microsoft Office applications.

·         Major in sports marketing or business administration preferred.

·         Strong problem solving skills.

·         Knowledge of NASCAR and the motorsports industry preferred.

·         Ability to handle a variety of priorities simultaneously.

·         Ability to communicate with a variety of people (track management, race fans, clients/sponsors)

Events Department Intern (Spring 2017) - Atlanta Motor Speedway (Hampton, GA)

The Events Department internship program at Atlanta Motor Speedway provides college students the opportunity to gain experience in promotions, event planning, logistics, execution, and motorsports. It allows students to network with people within the motorsports industry and local community while working at one of the premier racing facilities in the United States. By the end of this internship you will have a better understanding of the process and preparation that goes into planning and working a variety of major events.

The internship will last from January through May (dates may be negotiated) and all interns will have the opportunity to experience a multitude of events on many different levels. While this internship is unpaid, some of the work done during events and while working as a part of our promotions team will be paid at an hourly rate. The schedule is flexible to allow you ample time to attend classes; however, there will be mandatory events required of the intern.

College Level Student- B.A., B.S. or majoring in communications, sport management, Kinesiology, marketing, or related field. Good organizational and communication skills, attention to detail and accuracy. Intern must be able to work any scheduled event nights and weekends that fall during the internship.

Graphic Artist Job Description: Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in graphic design or a related field, plus two or more years of relevant experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience. The qualified candidate will be organized and detail-oriented to track projects, has ability to work independently and as a team player and the capability to meet deadlines. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Microsoft Office is required, plus a working knowledge of HTML and flash/Adobe animate. Photography experience is desired in the ideal candidate. Any experience with copywriting and non-linear digital video editing (Final Cut Pro/Express or Adobe Premier) would be a bonus.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist Marketing & Promotion Department 
    • Reports to Director of Marketing & Promotion– duties assigned as necessary.
  • Art Design:
    • Work with the Promotions department to develop needed graphics and looks for the marketing of the facility.
    • Design artwork for direct mail, outdoor campaigns, print ads, online ads, brochures, and posters for advertising campaign for all Atlanta Motor Speedway promoted events including, but not limited to NASCAR Weekend, Thursday Thunder, Friday Night Drags and Atlanta Motorama.
    • Generate graphics for AMS website and email marketing campaigns. 
    • Create materials for the ticket office – ticket stock, flyers, maps, fan guides, etc. 
    • Produce design for facility needs: event signage, pace car design, invitations, materials for press events, etc. 
    • Construct animations for LED board. 
    • Support the Sales department with logo creation and sales presentations. 
    • Interact with other departments on any other graphic needs that arise.
    • Souvenir Program
      • Craft the complete look of the souvenir program.
      • Layout design and approval with Director of Marketing & Promotion.
      • Establish deadlines and production schedule.
      • Update all static pieces in souvenir programs, bios in souvenir program / proof bio info.
      • Secure all photo needs for program.
      • Manage souvenir program budget with approval of Director of Marketing & Promotion.
  • Photography 
    • Help develop shot list for AMS photographers for all events.
    • Serve as photographer for any PR or in-house events; as needed
  • Event Weekend Responsibilities
    • Media Center / Press Box staffing per Director of Marketing & Promotion.
  • Pace Car / Promotional Tent appearances
    • Assist in staffing pace car appearances as needed

Marketing and Promotions Internship, Spring 2017 - Atlanta Motor Speedway (Hampton, GA)

Atlanta Motor Speedway's internship program provides hands-on experience in many different aspects of the marketing and promotion of auto racing events. The program offers serious, career-minded students a quality learning experience and the opportunity to form valuable relationships in preparation for a career in the professional sports industry. The internship is an unpaid opportunity for credit-earning college students. A successful internship experience will not necessarily result into permanent employment; however, interns are given at least the same consideration as other candidates when permanent job opportunities arise.

Current Opening
Spring semester: Cover letter and resumes being accepted now for Spring 2016 internship, to begin in early January and end in early May.

Who Can Apply
Credit-earning college students who apply will be considered for the position. While sport management and marketing majors are preferred, there is no course of study that is required for internships, and each applicant will be considered. Candidates should have quality writing samples prepared to submit. 

Qualified applicants will be contacted for an initial telephone interview in addition to a formal interview with the marketing and promotion staff on an ongoing basis until the position(s) is filled.

Job Description
The marketing and promotion intern will work a full-time schedule, focusing mainly on helping the marketing and promotion department prepare for and execute two major events: the 2016 AMS NASCAR Weekend and the Summit Racing Equipment Atlanta Motorama. Under the supervision of the communications manager, the marketing and promotion intern(s) will provide support with copy writing, media outreach, promotional appearances and other duties including but not limited to the list below. The candidate will also work each day of the NASCAR Weekend as a press box and/or media center assistant. The candidate should be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, possess excellent written and verbal communications skills, be highly organized and have a well-developed sense of initiative. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in writing race event releases, stats, notes and features
  • Update media guides
  • Keep and maintain a comprehensive media clip file
  • Coordinate and facilitate off-site promotional events
  • Help plan and execute all media events and promotions
  • Help create and send invitations to all media events
  • Brainstorm and research for interesting, off-beat notes to be used at race times
  • Distribute press guides to those requesting general track information
  • Help compile story ideas and bio information for race programs
  • Ensure all local and national community events calendars are accurate and up to date with track events and activities
  • Fulfill switchboard rotation duties
  • Assist marketing and promotion department as needed with day-to-day activities

Please note this description is a general overview of the position and may include additional tasks and responsibilities based on performance. The position will report to the communications manager.

Office Hours
Applicants will work Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and are expected to be motivated and willing to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends during events.
