Marketing & Promotion Internship, (Summer) - Atlanta Motor Speedway (Hampton, GA)

Atlanta Motor Speedway's internship program provides hands-on experience in many different aspects of the marketing and promotion of auto racing events. The program offers serious, career-minded students a quality learning experience and the opportunity to form valuable relationships in preparation for a career in the professional sports industry. The internship is an unpaid opportunity for credit-earning college students. A successful internship experience will not necessarily translate into permanent employment; however, interns are given at least the same consideration as other candidates when job opportunities arise. Candidates who successfully complete the program will be considered to work the 2017 NASCAR weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Who Can Apply
Credit-earning college students who apply will be considered for the position. While sport management and marketing majors are preferred, there is no course of study that is required for internships and each applicant will be considered.

Interviews
Qualified applicants will be contacted for an initial telephone interview in addition to a formal interview with the marketing and promotion staff. Applications will be accepted through April 7, and the formal interview process will take place in the week(s) following.

Job Description

The marketing and promotion intern will work a full-time schedule, focusing mainly on helping the marketing and promotion department prepare for and execute two summer racing series: Thursday Thunder and Friday Night Drags. Under the supervision of the communications manager, the marketing and promotion intern will provide support with copy writing, media outreach, promotional appearances and other duties including but not limited to the list below. A successful candidate will be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, possess excellent written and verbal communications skills, be highly organized and have a well-developed sense of initiative.

Duties and Responsibilities

·         Assist in writing race event releases, stats, notes and features

·         Update and maintain media guides

·         Keep and maintain media clip file

·         Help plan and execute all media events and promotions

·         Help create and send invitations to all media events

·         Brainstorm and research for interesting, off-beat notes to be used at race times

·         Distribute press guides to those requesting general track information

·         Help compile story ideas and bio information for race programs

·         Ensure all local and national community events calendars are accurate and up to date with track events and activities

·         Fulfill switchboard rotation duties

·         Assist marketing and promotion department as needed with day-to-day activities

Please note this description is a general overview of the position and may include additional tasks and responsibilities based on the intern performance. The position will report to the communications manager.

Office Hours
Applicants will work Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and are expected to be motivated and willing to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends during events.

The summer Marketing and Promotion internship at Atlanta Motor Speedway requires interns to work most Thursday and Friday evenings throughout the summer (June-August). Please take this into consideration when applying

VICE-PRESIDENT OF SALES

ATLANTA MOTOR SPEEDWAY

The Vice-President of Sales is responsible for the overall operation of all aspects of the Atlanta Motor Speedway Sales Department.  This position reports directly to the President.

Position requirements include high energy and creativity, sales team management experience, excellent communication and customer service skills and a strong passion for creating platforms that maximize revenue through successful strategic accomplishments.

Vice-President of Sales responsibilities includes:

  • Managing the daily operation of the Sales Department.

  • Creation and implementation of sales strategies to meet and exceed pre-established revenue goals through the sale of various levels of facility inventory.

  • Direct reporting supervision of sales executives and the sales support staff.

  • Leading in the creation and implementation of effective sales proposals and contracts.

  • Development and execution of a regular contact program for all sales accounts. Direct responsibility for building and maintaining regular contact platforms with all major sponsoring partners.

  • Creation of sales proposals, contracts and the execution thereof.

  • Weekly sales status reporting to the President.

  • Overseeing lead development and research programs to generate new business partnerships.

  • Collaboration with the Atlanta Motor Speedway Ticketing Department to create and meet group ticket sales objectives.

  • Coordination of SMI Corporate sales programs for Atlanta Motor Speedway inventory.

  • Creation of Sales Department annual operating budgets for submission to the Atlanta Motor Speedway Finance Department.

  • Collaborating with the Atlanta Motor Speedway Marketing and Promotion Department to create marketing plans which enhance the Sales Department’s ability to grow and retain business.

  • Working with the SMI Corporate Sales Department and other SMI facility sales managers to create and capitalize on mutual sales opportunities.

  • Overseeing Sales Department budget maintenance, including the timely and proper execution of paperwork as required by the Atlanta Motor Speedway Finance Department.

  • Creating and maintaining positive and harmonious relationships with clients, industry leaders, associates and fellow employees.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree.  Master’s Degree in related field a plus.

  • Relevant experience in a comparable position, preferably within the sports and entertainment industry, preferred.

  • Exceptional organization and project management skills, with an ability to handle multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.

  • Appreciation for high standards in customer service.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as demonstrated professionalism and diplomacy.

  • Ability to exercise sound business judgment generating effective solutions quickly and/or raising issues to management as necessary.

  • Team player spirit with an exceptional customer service attitude.

  • Strong PC skills.

  • Basic experience with/understanding of accounting.

  • Must be able to work required hours including some weekends and evenings.
