The Events Department internship program at Atlanta Motor Speedway provides college students the opportunity to gain experience in promotions, event planning, logistics, execution, and motorsports. It allows students to network with people within the motorsports industry and local community while working at one of the premier racing facilities in the United States. By the end of this internship you will have a better understanding of the process and preparation that goes into planning and working a variety of major events.


The internship will last from May through August (dates may be negotiated) and all interns will have the opportunity to experience a multitude of events on many different levels. While this internship is unpaid, some of the work done during events and while working as a part of our promotions team will be paid at an hourly rate. The schedule is flexible to allow you ample time to attend classes; however, there will be mandatory events required of the intern.

Qualifications:
College Level Student- B.A., B.S. or majoring in communications, sport management, Kinesiology, marketing, or related field. Good organizational and communication skills, attention to detail and accuracy. Intern must be able to work any scheduled event nights and weekends that fall during the internship.

Description

Interns may work up to 40 hours per week and must be available to work extended hours during the race weekend.  This is a paid, hourly position at $8.00 per hour.

  • Assist with monitoring, tracking and fulfilling contracted assets

  • Assist with onsite coordination of all hospitality areas including Suites

  • Keep client history files orderly and up to date

  • Manage event mailings to Clients including tickets, credentials and correspondence

  • Partner with Client Services team to manage/resolve issues during event

  • Assist Account Executives in future client research

  • Assist Marketing with special projects and on-site event marketing

Job Duties / Requirements

Events Intern – Kentucky Speedway

As an Intern at Kentucky Speedway in the Events Department, you will have the opportunity to gain experience in the field of event management and production.  This internship will teach the importance of strategic planning, organization, coordination, and communication skills within many areas. The events department at Kentucky Speedway oversees a variety of areas including, but not limited to: credentials, camping, gate operations, and event staff training.

This internship will prepare you with a better understanding of the process and preparation that goes into planning and working at a race facility.

Interns may work 40 hours per week and must be available to work weekends during the races.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create credential boards and notebooks for gate entrances.
  • Assist with credential mail out.

  • Create reference books for each campground and information booths.

  • Put together camping welcome packages and information booth materials.

  • Assist with overall setup:  campgrounds, signage, fencing, tents, tables, etc,  

  • Coordinate staff meals during events.  

  • Assist with check-in at training sessions

  • Update and maintain email lists for online training.

  • Organize event supplies and equipment. 

  • Update training materials

  • Assist with Speedway Children’s Charity  fundraisers

Located on approximately 1,200 acres, the multi-use complex is the largest sports facility in New England and features a 1.058-mile oval speedway, with a total capacity for 105,491 spectators, and a 1.6-mile road course.

The speedway hosts the only Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series, and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series events held in the six-state New England region. 

NHMS is looking for a seasonal intern to assist the New Hampshire Motor Speedway Corporate Sales Team in event preparation and entitlement activation during the 2017 season. This includes the months leading up to and throughout the July 14th- 16th and September 22nd-24th Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Event weekends.

Supervisor: Lisa McGahan, Director of Corporate Relations; New Hampshire Motor Speedway

Duration: May 2017- October 2017; adjustable based upon course scheduling 

Hours: Flexible; based upon course scheduling and event needs

Duties:

·         Work directly with NHMS Corporate Sales Team with researching potential clients and compiling leads

·         Assist with distribution of corporate partner asset packages
