The Speedway Club Intern (Spring 2015: January - End of May) - Charlotte Motor Speedway (Concord, NC)

The Speedway Club is in search of an intern who can assist with the day-to-day operations of the department as well as event planning and hospitality. The Speedway Club is a private membership club that offers membership opportunities to individuals and corporations. This internship is ideal for candidates wanting to go into event sales, wedding sales, event planning and corporate event planning. Intern must be able to work 25-30 hours per week plus all events held during the semester.

The individual will also assist the sales department in preparing for the race weekend. We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, creative, and brings a positive attitude to the department.

This department is seeking intern applicants who are interested in event marketing and advertisement. Interns will assist with but not limited to day to day filming & video production. As well as event day show execution on the World’s Largest HDTV. The department hires one intern per semester and looks for someone who is energetic and able to multitask in a fast-changing environment.

Speedway Motorsports, Inc. (SMI) is a leading marketer and promoter of motorsports entertainment in the United States. SMI, through its subsidiaries, owns and operates eight premier speedway facilities in significant markets across the country.

SMI is seeking potential interns with ambition and a strong desire to excel in the areas of public relations, corporate marketing and motorsports/large event management. College and graduate students with various backgrounds and degrees have had success in our program and continued a path to rewarding careers. The position will offer great networking possibilities for serious, career-minded students.

Specific Intern Duties include but are not limited to: Assist in devising marketing campaigns and proposals for existing clients and new prospects within the motorsports industry; assist in marketing presentations, research on events and other sports marketing opportunities and best practices; client service & partner interaction; special event planning & execution and other routine office duties. The ability to work with multiple divisions and departments of SMI which focus on all aspects of the motorsports industry is necessary.

As with all positions in sports, live events are spontaneous; must be able to work with a team in a fast-paced, event oriented environment and have fun!

Qualifications: Qualified candidates must be available to work a minimum of 25 hours per week in addition to all major events held during the semester. Hours during event time can require early morning arrival and late departures; including weekends. Security Intern (Spring 2015: January - End of May) - Charlotte Motor Speedway (Concord, NC)

Interns working in the Security Department will be responsible for assisting the officer on duty with attending to the first floor lobby office during normal business hours by answering guest's questions, answering the phone, and operating the camera system for potential issue.

Daily activities include- locking and unlocking doors, gates, and offices; the signing in and out of keys; monitoring deliveries in and out of the building through the loading docks; and helping to make the public feel welcome and wanted. The Security intern will also help out other departments as needed, such as our Guest Services and Logistics team. Making our guests' visit to CMS as enjoyable as possible is one of our top priorities.

•Candidates will perform administrative work and partner with our security teams during events.
•Responsible for gate control to ensure people with the proper credentials have access to restricted areas

Operations Intern (Spring 2015: January - End of May) - Charlotte Motor Speedway (Concord, NC)

 The Operations Department is seeking candidates who are self-starting and able to multitask in a fast paced changing environment. Candidates who are looking to gain a working knowledge from the operational aspects of a super speedway with multiply events which will include NASCAR racing, Auto Fairs, Track Rentals, and daily maintenance of our facilities.
Interns will help with the administrative duties to include answering the phone calls, purchase orders, copying, and researching upcoming projects in the operational department. Daily tracking activities will include facility maintenance, equipment repairs, fuel usage, work orders, and time sheets. As part of this internship you will learn how cost associate with these activities affect the overall operating budgets for an event.
Applicant need to have computer knowledge of Excel, Microsoft Word required, data entry will be a part of the daily activities. Good communication skills required by phone and email to communicate incoming requests to our operational team.

Performance Racing Network Intern (Spring 2015: January - End of May) - Charlotte Motor Speedway (Concord, NC)

PRN broadcasts live radio play-by-play NASCAR action and also syndicates five racing programs to over 700 stations nationwide. PRN is looking for motivated and energetic interns with a desire to excel in the fields of motorsports, marketing, sales, public relations, and broadcasting. We are looking for individuals that are interested and enthusiastic about experiencing what it would be like to work for Speedway Motorsports Inc. This internship is designed so that you learn on the job and are exposed to many different departments and skill sets. The internship is unpaid and requires a minimum of 20 hours per week.

To apply you must be at least a college level student. We would prefer that your major be specifically marketing or some other business related major.

Intern Duties:
• Little Luggies Race Club Data Entry
• Little Luggies Race Club E-News
• Little Luggies Race Club Welcome Packets
• Assist with ticket renewal programs for all races (NHRA and Coca Cola 600)
• Stock ticket renewal stations
• Manage renewal workers
• Help research new marketing strategies and ideas
• Aid in creation of advertising, brochures, and other collateral materials
• Assist in day to day operations (making phone calls, running errands, e-mails, etc.)
• Help schedule and execute promotions
• Answer fan questions and assist all guests of Charlotte Motor Speedway
• Promote and assist in data collection at races

The Guest Services and Logistics Department is seeking candidates who are self-starting and able to multitask in a fast paced and an always changing environment. Candidates who are looking to gain a working knowledge of NASCAR, drag racing, short track, and other various events need exceptional interpersonal and communication skills as well as the ability to think on the fly.

Responsibilities include event planning, staffing and guest services/hospitality. Interns will help with the logistics of security, parking, ushers, ticket takers, and event management that is key to any event at CMS-especially the highly charged NASCAR events with over 150,000 fans in attendance. Interns will also be responsible for the daily communication with our fans via telephone and email and helping other departments when needed. 

Knowledge of NASCAR, drag racing, and short track racing is a plus, but not required.

The Communications department offers interns practical experience writing press releases, planning press conferences, producing and editing web videos, executing social-media campaigns, and executing promotions for our events. The Events Department offers interns practical experience in the production, promotion and execution of national, regional and grassroots events.

We are seeking quick-learning and self-starting candidates who desire to gain an extensive working knowledge of NASCAR, short-track, drag racing, and special events. In addition to assisting in administrative and office duties, candidates will be required to assist with registration and sign in of competitors, lifting and moving of event supplies and equipment, ticket sales and various other race day duties. Additional non-event duties may include assisting other departments with promotional appearances, covering telephones, data entry, stuffing mailers, etc.

Ideal candidates must be a team player, customer-friendly, organized, outgoing, professional and able to deal effectively with frequent interruptions in a demanding environment. Due to the dynamic nature of the business, multi-tasking skills and the ability to think on the fly are a must. Excellent computer and customer relation skills are a must. Knowledge of the short-track and drag racing industry is a plus.

Racing Operations Intern (Spring 2015: January - End of May) - Charlotte Motor Speedway (Concord, NC)

The Racing Operations Department is seeking candidates who are self-starting and able to multitask in a fast paced environment. Interns in this department need exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities: 

  • Assist Director of Racing Operations in all aspects of on-track and competition racing operations.
    Including but not limited to:o Day-to-day staff management
    o Direct competition and related logistics
    o Hiring/recruiting
    o Jet Dryer logistics, staffing, and operations
    o Oversee fence and wall repair or maintenance
    o Oversee track repair
    o Public Safety coordination with state and local authorities
    o Training for officials and on-track crews
    o Oversee the Track Services department
  • Assist with management of all schedules for CMS events
  • Help coordinate with NASCAR and other racing series for scheduling, logistics, race operations, and event management
  • Assist with all Action Sports related entities
  • Assist the CMS Events Department with events at CMS 1.5 mile track, the dirt track, and the zMAX Dragway.
  • Assist with Summer Shootout and all US Legends operations with CMS
  • Assist with all on-track racing activities
  • Help facilitate safety and ground logistics with stunts for pre-race shows or press conferences
  • Work directly with facility operations to ensure work orders from events and GS&L are prioritized and managed accordingly

CMS is one of the busiest facilities in the country and this internship will help with track rental customers. This is a hands on, fast paced internship. A lot of experience will be gained in event preparation and planning.

Intern must be able to work a minimum of 20 hours per week plus all events held during the semester.

The Ticket Sales Department offers hands on experience in ticket sales and customer relations. Interns must be comfortable interacting with customers and visitors to CMS. Mobile Marketing Intern (Spring 2015: January - End of May) - Guest Services and Logistics (Concord, NC)

 The Fan Van intern will work closely with Corporate Sales, Tickets Sales, and the Guest Services & Logistics and Events departments to make appearances within the surrounding communities to promote Charlotte Motor Speedway, zMAX Dragway, The Dirt Track, & our events. The Fan Van is a grassroots marketing vehicle that travels to various events, such as grand openings, sponsor events, birthday parties, tailgating events, fundraisers, community events, and more. The Fan Van is equipped with video gaming systems, corn hole, activities, music, and promotional items. This intern will be required to take initiative and brainstorm creative places and events for the Fan Van to attend. Great customer service skills, a creative mindset, and a team player attitude are a must! As the Fan Van intern, you will receive the chance to gain experience in many departments of Charlotte Motor Speedway.

A minimum of 20 hours per week (credit eligible) are required. This is an unpaid internship, but a stipend will be paid at the end of the completion of a successful internship.

Job Responsibilities:
• Coordinate all appearances for the Fan Van. This includes corresponding with customers who want to book the Fan Van for birthday parties, tailgating events, fundraisers, community events, grand openings, and more.
• Drive the Fan Van to all appearances, set up and work Fan Van, and clean-up Fan Van after the event concludes.
• Represent Charlotte Motor Speedway in a positive manner at all times while promoting future events through grassroots marketing.
• Brainstorm new, creative places to take the Fan Van.
• Work with Corporate Sales on grand openings or sponsor events that would like to utilize the Fan Van.
• Work with the Tickets and Marketing departments on the ticket selling and promotional aspect of the Fan Van.
• Keep track of Fan Van inventory.

General Information

The internship program at Texas Motor Speedway (TMS) is designed to give college students hands-on training in their field of interest. The program provides real-life experience in the exciting and popular motorsports industry. TMS will also work with the student’s college to issue necessary documentation for class credit. A successful internship will not necessarily translate into permanent employment; however, interns are given the same consideration as other candidates when job opportunities arise.

Interns are required to work a minimum of 20 hours per week and, as a representative of Texas Motor Speedway, they are expected to present themselves professionally in their dress and actions. Employees and interns alike are forbidden to ask for autographs, photos or merchandise from any driver, car owner or crew chief. Doing so is grounds for immediate termination.

 

Internship Qualifications

As the Advertising/Events Intern with Creative Services Department at Texas Motor Speedway, you will have the opportunity to gain experience in the fields of advertising and event management in a business environment.

Expectations:
• All interns will conduct themselves in a professional manner. That includes proper dress and proper conduct during race weekend.
• Interns will report to their internship manager. Interns are required to contact their manager to notify if they will be late, absent or need to leave early on any given day.
• All interns will be treated as a regular employee of Texas Motor Speedway. They are to report to work on team each day (as assigned by their manager).

Internship: Communications/Community Relations
Ticket Department Intern - Ticket Department Intern- Texas Motor Speedway (Fort Worth, TX)

The Ticket Department offers hands on experience in ticket sales and customer relations. Interns must be comfortable interacting with customers and visitors to Texas Motor Speedway. Interns are expected to become part of the team fulfilling orders, providing customer service and problem solving; interns, like all working in the Ticket Department, must be flexible and willing to work with other departments.


Internship opportunities are available in the spring, summer and fall semesters. This department sells tickets daily for all Texas Motor Speedway, Dirt Track and Red Bull Air Race events. Interns will assist in mass mailings and help maintain a master database of fans by updating information as needed. Interns need to be flexible and willing to work long hours if needed.


Interns will work with the Service and Retention staff on a day to day basis and assist in the Public Hospitality tent, Victory Lane Club and Gate 4 Sales Tent. Aside from working daily with our customers on the phone, interns will be expected to assist the Service and Retention staff with multiple events held on and off the track. Interns can expect to work all the race events held during the semester.
