Marketing and Promotion Internship - Summer - Atlanta Motor Speedway (Hampton, GA)

Atlanta Motor Speedway's internship program provides hands-on experience in many different aspects of the marketing and promotion of auto racing events. The program offers serious, career-minded students a quality learning experience and the opportunity to form valuable relationships in preparation for a career in the professional sports industry. The internship is an unpaid opportunity for credit-earning college students. A successful internship experience will not necessarily translate into permanent employment; however, interns are given at least the same consideration as other candidates when job opportunities arise. Candidates who successfully complete the program will be considered to work the 2016 NASCAR weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Summer semester (Term 2): Cover letter and resumes being accepted now for summer internship, to begin mid-May.

Who Can Apply
Credit-earning college students who apply will be considered for the position. While sport management and marketing majors are preferred, there is no course of study that is required for internships and each applicant will be considered.

Interviews
Qualified applicants will be contacted for an initial telephone interview in addition to a formal interview with the marketing and promotion staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in writing race event releases, stats, notes and features
  • Update media guides
  • Keep and maintain media clip file
  • Help plan and execute all media events and promotions
  • Help create and send invitations to all media events
  • Brainstorm and research for interesting, off-beat notes to be used at race times
  • Distribute press guides to those requesting general track information
  • Help compile story ideas and bio information for race programs
  • Ensure all local and national community events calendars are accurate and up to date with track events and activities
  • Fulfill switchboard rotation duties
  • Assist marketing and promotion department as needed with day-to-day activities

Please note this description is a general overview of the position and may include additional tasks and responsibilities based on the intern performance. The position will report to the communications manager.

Office Hours
Applicants are expected to be motivated and be willing to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends during events.

The Term 2 intern will also assist Atlanta Motor Speedway’s summer racing series events. It requires interns to work most Thursday and Friday evenings throughout the summer (June-August). Please take this into consideration when applying.

Corporate Sales Intern - Atlanta Motor Speedway (Hampton, GA)

This department involves working with clients and sponsors on a national, regional and local level. The Corporate Sales Department focuses on fully developing integrated marketing partnerships between the client and the speedway. This department seeks outgoing, creative, highly motivated, can-do individuals with good communication skills. 

Specific Intern Duties: Assisting Sales Executives with sales proposals for existing and potential clients, research of companies and other possible sales opportunities, activating one of our many events which include, NASCAR, car shows, drag racing, etc. Daily office duties such as answering phone calls, filing, data management would also be a part of the position.

Mobile Marketing Intern (Fall 2015: September - December) - Charlotte Motor Speedway (Concord, NC)

 The Mobile Marketing intern will work closely with our Marketing and Communications departments to make appearances with our Fan Van to promote Charlotte Motor Speedway, zMAX Dragway and The Dirt Track,  within the surrounding communities. The Fan Van is a grassroots marketing vehicle that travels to various events, such as grand openings, sponsor events, birthday parties, tailgating events, fundraisers, community events, and more. The Fan Van is equipped with video gaming systems, corn hole, activities, music, and promotional items. This intern will be required to take initiative and brainstorm creative places and events for the Fan Van to attend. Great customer service skills, a creative mindset, and a team player attitude are a must! As the Fan Van intern, you will receive the chance to gain experience in many departments of Charlotte Motor Speedway.

A minimum of 20 hours per week (credit eligible) are required. This is an unpaid internship, but a stipend will be paid at the end of the completion of a successful internship.

Job Responsibilities:
• Coordinate all appearances for the Fan Van. This includes corresponding with customers who want to book the Fan Van for birthday parties, tailgating events, fundraisers, community events, grand openings, and more.
• Drive the Fan Van to all appearances, set up and work Fan Van, and clean-up Fan Van after the event concludes.
• Represent Charlotte Motor Speedway in a positive manner at all times while promoting future events through grassroots marketing.
• Brainstorm new, creative places to take the Fan Van.
• Work with Corporate Sales on grand openings or sponsor events that would like to utilize the Fan Van.
• Work with the Tickets and Marketing departments on the ticket selling and promotional aspect of the Fan Van.
• Keep track of Fan Van inventory.

Qualifications:
• Must be 21 years of age with clean background check
• Minimum 3.0 GPA or better

We are looking for individuals that are interested and enthusiastic about experiencing what it would be like to work for Speedway Motorsports Inc. This internship is designed so that you learn on the job and are exposed to many different departments and skill sets. The internship is unpaid and requires a minimum of 20 hours per week.

Security Intern (Fall 2015: September - December) - Charlotte Motor Speedway (Concord, NC)

Interns working in the Security Department will be responsible for assisting the officer on duty with attending to the first floor lobby office during normal business hours by answering guest's questions, answering the phone, and operating the camera system for potential issue.

Daily activities include- locking and unlocking doors, gates, and offices; the signing in and out of keys; monitoring deliveries in and out of the building through the loading docks; and helping to make the public feel welcome and wanted. The Security intern will also help out other departments as needed, such as our Guest Services and Logistics team. Making our guests' visit to CMS as enjoyable as possible is one of our top priorities.

•Candidates will perform administrative work and partner with our security teams during events.
•Responsible for gate control to ensure people with the proper credentials have access to restricted areas

The Speedway Club is in search of an intern who can assist with the day-to-day operations of the department as well as event planning and hospitality. The Racing Operations Department is seeking candidates who are self-starting and able to multitask in a fast paced environment. Interns in this department need exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities: 

  • Assist Director of Racing Operations in all aspects of on-track and competition racing operations.
    Including but not limited to:o Day-to-day staff management
    o Direct competition and related logistics
    o Hiring/recruiting
    o Jet Dryer logistics, staffing, and operations
    o Oversee fence and wall repair or maintenance
    o Oversee track repair
    o Public Safety coordination with state and local authorities
    o Training for officials and on-track crews
    o Oversee the Track Services department
  • Assist with management of all schedules for CMS events
  • Help coordinate with NASCAR and other racing series for scheduling, logistics, race operations, and event management
  • Assist with all Action Sports related entities
  • Assist the CMS Events Department with events at CMS 1.5 mile track, the dirt track, and the zMAX Dragway.
  • Assist with Summer Shootout and all US Legends operations with CMS
  • Assist with all on-track racing activities
  • Help facilitate safety and ground logistics with stunts for pre-race shows or press conferences
  • Work directly with facility operations to ensure work orders from events and GS&L are prioritized and managed accordingly

CMS is one of the busiest facilities in the country and this internship will help with track rental customers. This is a hands on, fast paced internship. A lot of experience will be gained in event preparation and planning.

Advertising/Events Internship

As the Advertising/Events Intern with Creative Services Department at Texas Motor Speedway, you will have the opportunity to gain experience in the fields of advertising and event management in a business environment.

The internship allows students to network with people within the motorsports industry and local community while working at one of the premier racing facilities in the United States. By the end of this internship, you will have a better understanding of the process and preparation that goes into planning and working at a race facility.

The voluntary internship will last, at minimum, the length of a semester, and all interns will experience multiple events including a major race weekend. The schedule is flexible and allows the student ample time to attend classes. However, the student will be required to attend certain events. While obtaining course credit for this internship by their college is not required, it is preferred.

Qualifications:
• College level student majoring in communications, sport management, advertising, marketing, or related field
• Good organizational and communication skills
• Eager to brainstorm and bring new ideas to all projects
• Attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to remain flexible, handling changing priorities and tight deadlines
• Must be able to work any scheduled event nights and weekends that fall during the internship.

Responsibilities: (Expanded upon during interview)
• Assist with annual media buys which includes purchasing, creative, fulfillment and payment related to radio, print, television, outdoor, online, texting and more
• Assist with maintaining the annual advertising budget
• Help develop promotional campaigns with media partners
• Create and assist with activation of events hosted by the speedway
• Conduct research from other venues, tracks and sports teams
• Assist with day to day office operations and other event related duties

Texas Motor Speedway Media Relations Internship

The internship program at Texas Motor Speedway provides college students the opportunity to gain experience in both public relations and motor sports. The internship allows students gain hand-on experience in the motorsports industry while at the same time allowing them to network with individuals in the industry. By the end of their internship they will have a greater understanding of the process and preparation that goes into a race weekend. The internship lasts the length of the semester and all interns will get to experience one race weekend. The internship is unpaid.

Expectations:
• All interns will conduct themselves in a professional manner. That includes proper dress and proper conduct during race weekend.
• Interns will report to their internship manager. Interns are required to contact their manager to notify if they will be late, absent or need to leave early on any given day.
• All interns will be treated as a regular employee of Texas Motor Speedway. They are to report to work on team each day (as assigned by their manager).

Qualifications:
College Level Student – B.A., B.S. or majoring in mass communications, journalism, communications, marketing, graphic arts, public relations or related field. Good organizational skills; attention to detail and accuracy. Must be able to work any scheduled event weekends that fall during the internship.

Responsibilities:
• Assist in the planning and execution of PR/media events
• Assist with the compilation and updating of daily clip reports
• Assist in the organization of the media center before and after races
• Working with and assisting pit reporters and staff volunteers on race weekends

• Helping to maintain current media contact list

DUTIES:

• Assist in organizing events by detailing action items
• Assist with volunteer contact and organizing per event
• During events get hands-on experience by helping coordinate behind the scenes
• Help plan and organize volunteer appreciation party.


This is an unpaid internship.

However, as a token of gratitude, all interns who complete the semester internship and work the race events held during the semester internship will receive a $500 stipend.

Internship: Communications/Community Relations
Ticket Department Intern - Ticket Department Intern- Texas Motor Speedway (Fort Worth, TX)

The Ticket Department offers hands on experience in ticket sales and customer relations. Interns must be comfortable interacting with customers and visitors to Texas Motor Speedway. Interns are expected to become part of the team fulfilling orders, providing customer service and problem solving; interns, like all working in the Ticket Department, must be flexible and willing to work with other departments.


Internship opportunities are available in the spring, summer and fall semesters. This department sells tickets daily for all Texas Motor Speedway, Dirt Track and Red Bull Air Race events. Interns will assist in mass mailings and help maintain a master database of fans by updating information as needed. Interns need to be flexible and willing to work long hours if needed.


Interns will work with the Service and Retention staff on a day to day basis and assist in the Public Hospitality tent, Victory Lane Club and Gate 4 Sales Tent. Aside from working daily with our customers on the phone, interns will be expected to assist the Service and Retention staff with multiple events held on and off the track. Interns can expect to work all the race events held during the semester.
